Village People at the California State Fair Legendary Costumed Disco Icons Set to Perform at 8:00 p.m.
WHAT: The Village People are a legend of the 1970s disco club scene, most notably with regular performances at trendy, as well as underground, New York clubs including the infamous Studio 54. Their songs have endured for generations and their live performances have delighted audiences all over the world. With their high energy dance songs, memorable dance routines and festive audience participation, this group has moved people from all walks of life for more than three decades. Selling more than 100 million records, the Village People were an instant phenomenon with hits like “San Francisco/In Hollywood,” “Macho Man,” “In the Navy,” “Go West” and more. Their iconic hit, “YMCA,” remains a staple audience participation anthem for everything from sporting events and parties to movies and TV shows. On December 31, 2008, the Village People and over 40,000 fans entered the Guinness Book of World Records with the largest crowd to ever do the “YMCA” dance simultaneously. The band has performed alongside pop super stars such as Madonna and Michael Jackson, been on major television talk shows, as well as hosted a series of parades and concert events internationally.
